Safeblade Initiative
Knife crime remains a significant issue in the UK, with 50,500 knife-related offenses recorded in England and Wales for the year ending March 2023, marking a 4.7% increase. Nottinghamshire and beyond experienced a 7% rise, with 70 incidents per 100,000 people. Youth offenders aged 10-17 accounted for 18% of cases, while hospital admissions for knife assaults reached 3,775. In response, the Safeblade initiative aims to tackle this issue in Nottinghamshire and beyond through prevention, education, and community support. By engaging at-risk youth, raising public awareness, and fostering law enforcement collaboration, Safeblade seeks to create a safer, knife-crime- free community.
